Push notifications for file exports in Handy
What are push notifications?
Push notifications are announcements sent by the browser directly to your device's operating system (like Windows or macOS), so the device receives a notification even when the user is not currently viewing Handy on their browser. These notifications appear like any other notification and can include sound or can be clicked to perform certain actions.
Now, Handy will send a push notification when a file is ready to be downloaded, even if you're working on another tab or a different window.
How does it work?
- After clicking any button that downloads/exports a file (Excel, PDF, etc.), the browser will request permission to send push notifications (this only happens once)
- If this permission is granted, every time you export a file:
- You'll be able to switch to any other tab
- Then you'll receive a notification from the browser with a sound alert indicating that the file is ready
- By clicking on this notification, the file will open automatically
How do I activate it?
No additional processes are needed. To grant the initial permission, go to export a file and:
- You'll see the browser automatically asking to grant Handy permission to send push notifications
- We recommend accepting, so you don't have to wait in the same window while the file is generated

How do they look?

This feature is available for all sections that have file exports, including:
- Clients
- Orders
- Routes
- Deliveries
- Inventories
- Forms
- Zones
- Products
- Assets
- Payments
- And many more
It doesn't matter if the button is:
- A direct link
- A dropdown menu with formats
- A button inside a form
They all activate a push notification
⚙️ Important considerations
- Permission is only requested once, and the browser will remember which choice you made
- If permission is denied, everything will work the same; you just won't get these push notifications
- The notification will only appear if you're not currently on the Handy screen
- If you have several Handy screens open, only one will show the notification (no duplicates)
- Notifications within the Handy app (green message indicating the file is ready) still work the same as usual
- The push notification is just an addition, not a replacement
⚠️ Additional note
In some operating systems, it might also be necessary to activate the browser's notification permissions from the system's settings directly.
